Bede is one of the rival characters in Pokémon Sword and Shield, the others being Hop and Marnie. He initially specializes in Psychic-type Pokémon, but is eventually scouted by Opal to succeed her as a Fairy-type Gym Leader, and thus changes his specialty type accordingly.

Bede eventually returns as a Gym Leader, interrupting the finals of the Champion Cup and demanding to battle the player, staking his career on his victory.
