Avery is the rival character in The Isle of Armor in Pokémon Shield.

He battles the player over the next two trials, the former over a set of Max Mushrooms he claims discovered first, and the latter as part of a formal challenge.

In the post-game, after Mustard has been defeated in a final showdown, Avery can be rematched daily.
