This is when your rival, Gary, appears in eight places and battles you. Here's the list on where he appears:
1. The first time that he'll appear is in Oak's Research Lab and he battles you with his starter Pokémon that beats your starter Pokémon.
2. The second is when you're about to go to the Pokémon League for the first time, but he stops you on Route 22 and battles you with a Pidgey and his starter Pokémon that is super effective against your starter Pokémon.
3. The third time is when you're about to walk on Nugget Bridge on Route 24.
4. The fourth time is when you're about to see the ill captain on S.S. Anne, but stops and battles you.
5. The fifth time is when you're in Lavender Town in the haunted building.
6. The sixth time is when you and Gary meet up in Silph Co. If anyone knows what floor they meet up, let me know.
7. The seventh time is when Gary battles you on Route 22 as some sort of warm up before you go to the Pokémon League.
8. The eighth time is when you meet Gary in the Pokémon League and you find out that he's the Champion. This will be the last time that you meet him. You can continue to see him as much as you like.
