In the demo version, Oak's lab is blocked off. However, this blockade can be bypassed simply by holding up while closing the start menu. This lets us see a glimpse of what the start of the game looked like at this point in time, with your rival playing a more Gary-like role. Nothing special will be triggered inside the lab, although you can talk to the NPCs.
Despite how simple the glitch is, this is to my knowledge its first discovery.
