What a massive pain this was.
I started this on retroarch, because parallel launcher would not let me connect to retroachievements. I put in my password, but I wouldn't connect. I tried for a while, but eventually I gave up. The game felt completely unplayable and it kept crashing on retroarch, so after a while I gave up. I decided to try parallel launcher one final time and now without changing anything it worked. Was really annoying having to redo all stars, but I thought I can at least play without constant crashes now. However when I tried to stream the game it was so laggy to the point it was completely unplayable.
It took me a long time to fix it, but eventually I was able to. However after a while it started crashing again and in b2it kept crashing to the point beating the stage was impossible. I changed one setting, even tho I was advised against it and with that the game was slightly more laggy, but it didn't crash anymore from there on.
Even with all those technical difficulties out of the way, the game was still such a massive pain. The first thing you think when seeing this game is that tippy will be absurd and while it was difficult, it certainly wasn't the major problem of the game. TTC was pretty doable, tho I got trolled at the end of 100s once. RR was the way bigger problem and the first time I did it with states I gave up, because I couldn't get on the ship nor the house. Later I watched bubzias vod and also found own strats.
I came up with a decent 100s route - 8 coins on the island, 10 on the lower path, blue coin switch (if I miss 2 blues I can get another 10 from the previous path), the ship, shoot to the house, take the warp back and do reds. Felt like a really good route, since you only have to do one carpet ride and you can't really die to reds, so doing that at the beginning of every attempt would be annoying. However it played out a bit differently. I wanted to go through the star with states and since I didn't know how the cannon shot will work I did maze early, because I didn't load the state up to that point. I never got to the ship even with states, so there was no way I would first try. I started recording, just to get another clip for the choke comp, but somehow I got the star that attempt. Sucks I only have a recording for the end now, but whatever. Also fun fact this star is rightfully 50 points, but for some reason when bubzia was playing this set it was worth 5 lol. Actually all RR stars did have a different amount of points. Most were 5 and house 25, which got nerfed to 10 now.
A big problem are timed sections, since everything is so slow, so being on a cap timer or beating the 2nd koopa race was a pain. As well as many stars you wouldn't think about right away do suck, especially something like manta, which was one of the worst in the game.
The biggest issues are slides. I spent like 3 days on PSS, mainly because I was new to the game and still tried to fix the problems I described above. TTM 100s were really scary, since there is a lot left after the slide, but at least it's decently forgiving and you can skip a bunch of coins on the slide.
CCM was without a doubt the worst. 100s were absurdly cursed and I had such absolute ridiculous chokes. I spent like 5h of attempts on that and the penguin offline and somehow got it in no time on stream. The penguin is likely the worst star in the game, since going down the slide is already awful, but going down fast is another level, especially that last bridge. For 100s you can jump/gp in the middle to go down in a straight line (at least if you don't get trolled), but here you can't slow down, which makes that last section so ridiculous.
