Global News | Poilievre urges feds to list Houthis as terrorist organization in Canada @globalnews | Uploaded October 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 week ago.
During a press conference in Toronto on Thursday, Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre called upon the federal government to list Yemen’s Houthis as a terrorist organization in Canada.
“Jewish Canadians and all Canadians deserve to feel safe,” Poilievre said. “They deserve to know that they will not be targeted by terrorist groups that operate here, launder money here, finance organized crime here and foment hatred here,” he added of the Iran-affiliated group.
This comes just two days after Poilievre called for Israel to pre-emptively strike Iran's nuclear facilities, saying such an act would be “a gift by the Jewish state to humanity.”
Poilievre first voiced his support for Israel on Monday at a commemoration event in Ottawa marking the one-year anniversary of Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack against Israel. The ensuing conflict in the Middle East reached a new crescendo last week, when Iran — which supports not only Houthis, but Hamas and Hezbollah fighting Israel — fired a barrage of ballistic missiles at Israel, which has vowed retaliation.
