Professor Hall Gardner delivers a presentation on the importance of breaking the dividing wall separating arts and geopolitics.
While presenting the ways poets and intellectuals such as Victor Hugo, Karl Marx, Rudyard Kipling, Wilfred Owen and other interpreted the geopolitics of the time before and during the so-called Great War, the discussion will seek to explode several myths about the origins of World War I
The first myth is that the world was sleep walking into the war. The second is that German militarism caused the war. A third myth, that really developed after the Bolshevik revolution, was that it was impossible to negotiate with the Russians despite the formation of the 1907 Anglo-Russian entente. And a fourth myth was that there was no political alternatives to war.
