How are you going to record your podcast? There are two general options: using software or using hardware.
The software recommendations covered in this lesson are Quicktime, GarageBand, Adobe Audition, and Logic Pro (I personally use Adobe Audition).
Audacity is also great free audio software for Mac & PC:
audacityteam.org
And even most video editing software apps like Final Cut Pro, Davinci Resolve, and Adobe Premiere have pretty advanced audio editing capabilities if you're already familiar with one of them. There's honestly nothing wrong with using a video editor to work with audio-only. If it works, it works!
As far as recording hardware is concerned, you can invest in a standalone recorder and then import your recordings to your computer for editing and uploading. I love the Rodecaster Pro, but simpler interfaces like the Scarlett 4th Gen or even Zoom H1e can get the job done! Just remember that if possible, it's best to get an interface with at least 70dB of gain.
Software recording might be right for you if:
•You will always have a computer available while recording
•You have an interface or USB mic that will allow you to connect a microphone to your computer
•You don't want to deal with transferring/importing files recorded separately
Hardware recording might be right for you if:
•You want maximum portability
•You want the ability to "double record" (have both your hardware recorder running with a software application).
•You won't always be near a computer when recording
And of course, as you might expect it's not uncommon to use both hardware and software together. Especially when recording interviews, I love having my Rodecaster record internally while also using an app like Ecamm Live to record to my computer. The backup redundancy adds some great peace of mind.
