Animal Liberation TV | PODCAST NO 6: Angels of Mercy? A Channel 4 film about the ALF and Keith Mann's sentence of 14 years @animalliberationtv | Uploaded October 2020 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
In this podcast I present a Channel 4 film, shown in 1995, made by a young ambitious film maker, Yousaf Ali Khan, after he heard about Animal Liberation activist Keith Mann being sentenced to 14 years (the same sentence as a double rapist!).
This film tells the story of that era.
I assisted in the making of the film and in helping set up prison visit interviews, along with being interviewed in it myself (obviously as a much younger man!)
In a lengthy introduction:
1) I talk about some of the main characters in the film.
2) I talk about the Justice For Keith Mann campaign we formed to highlight the injustice and to help get support for his sentence appeal, which was successful in the sense he had a 3 year reduction.
3) I give personal insight into the stories behind the story.
4) I reveal a 'secret' (Keith approved the story) about his Cat A prison visits.
5) I give a background to this period, briefly covering some court cases and periods of activism.
6) I read briefly from some material from that time.
7) And of course, there's a Barry Horne quote in there too!
The actual film itself was a huge victory for us as a movement and really helped expose and highlight Keith's unjust sentence.
It contains great footage and is vital viewing for people wanting to understand the 90's Animal Liberation movement.
