In this video we discuss how to fit a 5K BASIC program into 3K of RAM. Finding ways to work within the limitations of vintage computers can be interesting. This was the case when I decided a banner printing program for a pocket computer would be fun. The problem is that the bitmaps for the characters alone would take more than the total amount of RAM available.

How did we get around this limited RAM problem? Data compression of course? “Data compression in BASIC?” you ask. Yes, at it is not as difficult as it seems at first. Join us and find out how it works and maybe even port ‘Pocket Banner’ to your own small vintage computer.
