Lately the mega plywood factories have been sneaking unusual plies into the cores and creating havoc for custom cabinets. The use of dense tropical hardwood is being used to make the cores in some plywood I have bought at Home Depot recently. This makes an inferior product as demonstrated in this discussion video.
