What is “The Joining” in Pluribus? How did everyone on Earth go from eight billion individuals to one collective 'us' in an afternoon? Vince Gilligan’s new sci-fi show does a pretty good job of explaining the broad strokes in its first two episodes. But if you’re like me and don’t have a background in theoretical biology, you might have found yourself sitting on your couch, bewildered like Carol (Rhea Seehorn). You don’t have the Under Secretary of Agriculture for Farm Production and Conservation and his helpful chyrons emphasizing key points like “We are not aliens.”
This video explores the core science fiction element in Pluribus, and looks at whether it needs to be scrientifically accurate or not. The show chose the “semi-plausible” approach, and through the first half of the season everything seems to be working according to their plan.
