This is my 2019 Hybrid Subaru Crosstrek. The plow is a SnowSport. I use the dash camera to see where I am going when I back up. Works like a charm 🙂. This was real heavy snow as well. I have used this plow for 20 years now on 5 different vehicles. The plow can be purchased here amzn.to/3Ntblax
I will list some facts below that I hope will answer many different questions that may arise.
Did I fabricate or build this set up? No, It is a SnowSport plow and can be purchased in the link above. If you live outside the US it may not be available.
How do you see backing up? I use the back up camera on the dash. It is wide angle so I can see everything on both sides of the plow.
What is the cost of the plow? When I bought it over 20 years ago it was around $900. It is now around $1900.
Will this hurt the transmission? Time will tell and I am paying close attention to how it feels while I am pushing. Also checking the fluid for any burnt smells. So far I have had no issues.

How much does the plow weigh? Around 70lbs.
Does the plow need to be removed when not in use? No, the plow can be placed at the top of the 2 bars it rides up and down on. 2 safety clips hold it in place so you can travel on the main roads with it.
Does the plow have any down pressure? Only down pressure is from the weight of the plow itself. Sand can be added to the inside of the plow if desired but I never have. The current weight has done a great job for the last 19 years.
What happens if you hit a rock or something sticking up under the snow? The plow is floating up and down on the 2 bars it rides on. When you hit a rock it bumps up over it.
How well do your solar panels work with snow all over them? The snow slides off all by itself around lunch time. They are currently only powering my backup battery for when I lose power and charging my car. I have waited over 6 months now for Eversource to come out and put in my solar meter. Once they do that It will power my entire property.
How much gas or electric does it take to plow your driveway? My car is a hybrid so it is half gas half electric. I can plow this driveway and my tenants driveway next door and still have half my battery left so no need to use gas. It is made to drive 17 miles before switching to gas. Once the battery is depleted it will take 2 hours to fully charge with a 240v hook up or 7 hours with 110v hook up.
Why are you plowing snow on your lawn or why is your driveway so big? This is my home and also a storage facility. If you look over near the tall pine trees you might see a cement foundation covered in snow. That is where I am placing 7 storage units. I need to have space enough for people hauling trailers to be able to safely turn around.
Why would anyone want to live in these conditions in the first place with all that snow? I guess it's because I was born and raised here. You adapt and it becomes a way of life. There are so many awesome things you can do with snow. Many choose to be snow birds in their later years. I'm not there yet lol.
Why does the electric sound from the cars EV annoy me so much? You don't actually hear it from inside the car.
