This is a gold ring which has been worn for a long time. It's time now to rebuild all the prongs. I wlil re-set the Garnet after the torch work and bench work have been done. Jewelers can put torches on Diamonds and Rubies, but Garnets do not do so well when one is soldering right up against the stone.
The solder I am using on this job melts at above 1,200 degrees, so the torch work has to be sensitive to the flow point of the 14Karat gold ring itself.
The ring is now ready to soak in a mild acid bath, after which I will clean it and use the flex-shaft and files and other hand tools to dress the new prongs, and then set the Garnet.
