Playing pads from within MainStage 3 via the Behringer FCB1010 foot pedal. Done quickly as a proof of concept and recorded with the pads playing back through speakers and acoustic next to camera. Played first without pads, then with pads. Hope this helps someone, read more...
This requires a bit of setting up and time and effort but if you're a solo artist or a drop and want to perhaps add chords rather than just root/tonic note pads, this is an option!
Below I am using a MacBook Pro / Behringer FCB1010 / M-Audio Uno MIDI to USB interface (please see note about this interface below as this interface does work fine with MainStage but does not work with iFCB software ifs you intend to use that, see note further down). In MainStage I'm triggering the Alchemy synth with the 'View from the Summit' patch, which of course you can change in the channel strip.
To set this up, I'd recommend these excellent YouTube tutorial videos (thanks to their creators!) -
1. Learn how to use chord trigger in 3 minutes - youtu.be/SmHl6FSZ-K0
2. Programming FCB1010 to trigger Mainstage - youtu.be/IxBeh5xMMzI
You can also programme the FCB1010 by using the iFCB software from Wabbit Wanch which is US $19.99. If you decide to go this route, you will need a MIDI to USB lead which is capable of transmitting SysEx. Many cables don't do this so you'll need to visit the iFCB forum here to see what works (also apparently the Tie studio 1i1o also works with SysEx according to Amazon reviews but I haven't personally confirmed it) - wabbitwanch.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6
If you're using OS Mojave then it's possible iFCB won't work (at the time of writing this, October 2018) as iFCB is only a 32 bit app. It may work but I've yet to test it.
If you wish to use iFCB, use this tutorial here called 'Mapping FCB1010 to MainStage 3' - youtu.be/qbDPdRJFwVU
