WARNING: Your game may freeze from this, but that's the worst that can happen.
1. Put your controller into port three of your Wii or GCN.
2. Select all the other characters you wish to play against (1p, 2p, and 4p), but do not select your character (leave it as an open box with no character in it).
3. Make sure all of your Melee registered names are erased except for ONE, and move your cursor over the blank name box.
3. You now have to press the A button RIGHT as you exit the character selection screen. To do this, while your cursor is still over the name box, press and hold the B button, and at the same time press (but not hold) the A button. Press the A button a second time EXACTLY as you exit the character selection screen. If you press the A button too early, you will be taken to the "new name" screen. If you press it too late, then you will be taken back to the menu. If you press it right as you leave, you will be taken to the stage selection screen.
4. Select any stage, and you're done.
Master Hand's moves are mapped to the D-Pad, R, L, and B buttons. These are the only buttons that can make him attack. You mus use R, L, or B in combination with the D-Pad to make him attack.
You cannot move as Master Hand.
You cannot die as Master Hand in any way unless in a Stamina Melee.
Do NOT play as Master Hand in the following modes: Target Test, Classic Mode, Adventure Mode; it will cause the game to freeze right at the start. You may play as Master Hand in All-Star, however you cannot advance to the portals, so it is pointless. The game may also freeze after you win a match as Master Hand, or after you select your stage.
