Play With ASL is a Deaf-led company that provides tools to ASL instructors, parents, family members, and students. By combining interactive gaming, curriculum alignment, and learning management system integrations, Play With ASL helps students learn American Sign Language faster and more effectively.
Founded by Jon Mowl, who experienced the isolation of being the only Deaf person in a classroom, Play With ASL builds bridges between hearing and Deaf communities. The platform serves more than 60,000 users and has secured over 25 letters of intent from universities including Yale, Boston University, Purdue, and the University of Texas.
Through the AWS Social Entrepreneur Accelerator and AWS Education Equity Initiative, Play With ASL built a 12-month roadmap to use AI and cloud technology to scale its mission and support classrooms anywhere in the world. The team sees ASL as the future of human-computer interaction, a multimodal language with applications far beyond the classroom.
