Based on the observation that 80% of plastic pollution in the oceans comes from inland and is transported by rivers, Surfrider Foundation Europe has developed the Plastic Origins programme. Plastic Origins is a mobile application combining citizen science and artificial intelligence, which maps plastic pollution in rivers and proposes solutions to local decision-makers to reduce this pollution at source.
Whether you are a walker, a hiker, a kayaker or just curious, you can contribute to the preservation of the Ocean from the inland. Help us map this pollution by training yourself to use the Application and by going out into the field to collect data.
