Furthermore, the cigars have been stored in a Boveda acrylic humidor with 69% Boveda packs for a period of three weeks to ensure that they were properly acclimated and ready to be evaluated.
00:44 Cigar Overview
A recent release from 2019, "Alma del Fuego" means "Soul of Fire". It was created by Nestor Plasencia to showcase the properties of Ometepe Nicaraguan tobacco. It features a sun-grown Jalapa wrapper, a double binder of which one is from Ometepe. Meanwhile, only the use of Ometepe has been divulged in the filler but no other tobaccos have been listed. Otherwise, it is a puro, which means that it only features Nicaraguan tobacco.

The Alma del Fuego has a rustic appearance with a bumpy roll but a firm spring. it's also a box-pressed cigar with an antique oak hue and some oily sheens. To underline its rustic appearance, it has coarse veins. Its aromas consist of caramel, musky labdanum, and vanilla olibanum. On the prelight, it provides an excellent draw, which provides flavours of tonka bean, cardamon, and curcuma.
03:55 1st Third Tasting Notes
The ash on the first third is a little weak and tends to split. The flavours are wonderfully complex with a rich bouquet of caramelised aromas. Nutrient-dense soil is the most overt while agarwood also offers a gourmand profile.

The ash has stopped splitting and is now very strong. The burn line is somewhat wavy, though. The second third can be defined by freshly-roasted espresso beans. There's also a hint of liquorice sweetness with a slightly meaty savoury profile.

The final third has a burn that requires touching up but the ash is excellent. The flavour profile moves away from the nuanced gourmand character and instead braces an earthier profile. There are notes of Basque espelette pepper, charred, oak, and rich cacao.

The Alma del Fuego has an excellent draw with a cool draw. However, its angle can get particularly wavy. Similarly, the ash is generally strong but it can split near the beginning of the smoke.

The three bands look stunning with a bright colour that's evocative of a fiery volacano. The box is fantastic and is delivered with a stylish detachable ashtray. Expect to pay $16 per cigar and $150 for a whole box of 10. Otherwise, this is a cigar best suited to formal occasions and for those already familiar with cigars. It wouldn't be suitable for beginners at a wedding or similar, for instance.
