Our goldfish live in a 40 gallon breeder. The substrate is sand and the plants are artificial. We clean the tank once a week. Filtration is two large sponge filters. Using live plants in a goldfish tank can be a challenge. We have tried it many times and they eat them! There are a few plants goldfish tend not to eat though, Anubias being one of them. In this tank we decided to use artificial plants.
