The Department of Architecture at Bolton Street College helps Kenmare plan for the future.

The Kenmare Community Development Association was reformed to promote tourism, to encourage more industry in the region, and to conserve the local environment.

The School of Architecture at Bolton Street College carried out a survey of Kenmare and made recommendations for change and conservation.

The architecture tells the story of the street.

Áine O'Connor and Vincent Hanley meet with members of the Kenmare Community Development Association, who gave their reaction to the Bolton Street survey. Bob Hanley, chairman of the association, believes the survey has brought a new awareness to people about Kenmare and its hinterland. The research shows the need for the community to have a joint approach for industry, tourism and the environment.

Liam Carlin, Assistant Head of the Department of Architecture at Bolton Street, would like to see the people of Kenmare using the proposals to take charge of their own future.

This episode of 'Summerhouse' was broadcast on 1 July 1980.
The reporters are Áine O'Connor and Vincent Hanley.

'Summerhouse' was a summer magazine programme with a very wide brief, from arts and entertainment to investigative reports. The first series was presented by Áine O'Connor and Liam Nolan. Vincent Hanley replaced Nolan as O'Connor's co-presenter for the second and third series. It was first broadcast on 13 June 1979 and ran for three series in the summer, until 19 August 1981.
