This is a Makita Model 2040 Wood Planer. I sharpen the blades / knives and install. This is 400 mm wide planer, with an adjustable table.
Makita has discontinued this machine.
I bought this wood planer new in the late 1980's. It has been an excellent machine. I recently replace the urethane feed rollers (1st time since new) Now I need to sharpen the blades / knives.
The Makita Horizontal Wheel Wet Blade Sharpener is a model 98202 (Link below).
This I also have had since the 1980's and has been a excellent unit.
I use King brand Japanese water stones. 400, 800 and 1200 grit stones. You can not get stones that cut faster and better than this type of stone. These are also very easy to flatten and keep flat by using the 3 stone method. I have been using these stones and sharpener since new in the 1980's. I sharpen all of my wood planes, chisels & planer blades with this setup. Links below to stones.
