Placing Some Historic Pieces in the Gold Journal
Hey everybody! I haven’t had this journal on the desk in a while. I do have some things to put in it. Sometimes pieces of ephemera are hard to talk about. My intention is always to be respectful.
The “free cotton” postcard is historically important because it sits at the intersection of:
African American history, labor history, photography, Southern identity, and commercial ephemera.
I see three beautiful people who led real lives and deserve to be presented with truth and respect. This old North Carolina ephemera really pulls on my heart strings.
I must say, the “free produce movement” has grabbed my attention. I want to learn more.
