When we think of Pixar we think of classics like Toy Story or Monsters Inc, or we think of upcoming movies like Onward and Soul. But Pixar was changing animated movies even before it created Woody and Buzz.

In this video, I cover Pixar's Computer Animation Production System (CAPS) and how it increased labor productivity for Disney animators. CAPS allowed animators to achieve a multiplane effect without the enormously expensive multiplane camera. Because of the cost savings, Disney put hundreds of multiplane shots in The Lion King.
