Pitter, patter, listen to the rain - with woodblock: A short rhyme about rain which is very easy to sing along to even for very young children. I play on my woodblock, a simple slit drum, with my mallet and imitate the sound of rain, starting with rain drops, then drizzling rain, turning into heavier rain, and back to rain drops again.
In my classes for older kids, they practice playing along. With younger kids, I play a simpler pattern. In my baby classes, we don't play with woodblocks, but parents tap to the beat on baby's hand or foot or another body part.
