Piston Speed-How high is too high? Hint-the 5.3L at 8000 rpm has 18000 rpm F1 piston speed! FYI-The formula for mean piston is stroke x rpm/ 6. Here are the strokes and piston speeds for the 5 different combos. 8000-rpm 4.8L-3.267 stroke, 4350 ft/min. 8000-rpm 5.3L-3.622 stroke 4830 ft/min. 18,000-rpm V10 F1 (1.63 stroke) 4880 ft/min. 10,200 rpm 500-inch Pro Stock (3.6 stroke) 6300 ft/min. 8500-rpm 800- inch mountain motor (5.0 inch stroke) 7083 ft/min!
