Slovenia-based Pipistrel certified the first electric airplane in 2020, the Velis Electro. While it's making inroads in Europe, the FAA appears to be a long way from even paving a path to certification in the U.S. And as Paul Bertorelli reports in this video done in conjunction with Florida Tech, the Velis' short endurance makes an unlikely candidate for flight training in the U.S.
