Dr Claire Durrant, a Race Against Dementia researcher funded by a £1.5 million donation from the James Dyson Foundation, recently met with Sir James Dyson to share her latest discoveries.
Through her novel approach that uses live human brain tissue, with patient permission, Dr Durrant has revealed how the toxic form of Amyloid Beta protein can damage the vital connections between brain cells, known as synapses.
Remarkably, her research also shows that even small changes in the natural levels of the non-toxic form can disrupt how brain cells function.
