Hello friends. This is Pioneer’s end of the line for lights, buttons, bells and whistles. VSX-D902S from 1993, 125WPC.
Predecessors were the VSX-D901S and VSX-9900 but with different surround sound wattages. And the monster VSX-D1S from 1991 was in an earlier variant with much of the same architecture internally but expanded display and dropdown faceplate buttons.
These are very difficult to work on in my opinion. I’ve failed to restore 2 which were purchased non-working, so I’ve learned to only to get them in a working state and run them cool. They get hot even when idle!
Internally, the power supply area caps can bulge from heat and I have a power regulator heat sink mod in the main section which will keep a very critical part from failing - if interested reach out to me. When that regulator area fails you have to disassemble the entire damn thing to get to the solder pads below. Enables many opportunities to cause further issues.
Anyways, these are great units when working and the remotes all work with each other so no missing buttons if you’re using a different one.
I’m ready for the Fall season, pumpkin farms, and Halloween - my all-time favorite season and time of the year.
