My thoughts on the Pilot Custom 823. This fountain pen has a medium 14kt gold nib and is newly inked with Pilot Iroshizuku ajisai. I've had it for about a month and it was inked with Diamine Earl Grey. It would skip and stop writing often so I did some research and changed to Pilot ink. Overall, I prefer the pen with the new ink. It writes very smoothly; only time will tell if it keeps up. The Wingsung 699 is a good alternative at $29, although not as smooth a writer and not as solidly built. But still a nice fountain pen, nonetheless.
