I actually experimented with unlocking whites and purples together a couple of years ago. Now that I do YouTube, I figured I would do a video about it.
All I do is pluck the first purple and white at the same time. Then, I wait a little, and use my first spicy spray on a Pikmin following me. The cutscenes overlap for some reason, and the Pikmin that should be in one cutscene is replaced by a Pikmin from another cutscene. For example, the Pikmin that became spicy could replace the purple Pikmin.
One interesting Pikmin-replacement that occurs is when a non-spicy purple or white replaces the spicy Pikmin. This highlights the true nature of the Pikmin's animations in this cutscene. The developers made Pikmin do their animations about twice as fast when they are spicy. Thus, the animations you see when a Pikmin becomes spicy for the first time are actually sped up by this effect! The real animations are at ~half speed. Because of this, only ~half of the animation is shown in the time span of the cutscene. Hence, it looks like a Pikmin does a very slow, dramatic T-pose when it's not spicy.
Note: I could have also have plucked my first blue Pikmin, and Pikmin would consequentially replace the blue Pikmin and do its animations. However, I didn't feel like luring a wollywog without bitters or pushing the blue at a snail's pace (I probably couldn't finish pushing a wild blue to the nearest patch of grass in the span of an in-game day). However, I can't get this glitch to work! This leads me to believe that wild Pikmin CAN enter their Onion on the Japanese version, but not on the American version.
