On August 13th around 2:30 am, deputies spotted an e-bike rider who was riding in the oncoming lanes, with no lights on, at 102nd St S and Steele St S. Deputies attempted a traffic stop due to the dangers of riding in oncoming lanes and having no lights. Still, this rider did not want to stop. It was made known to the rider to stop several times, and the pursuit continued southbound on Hosmer St. S to 96th St. S. The rider was finally caught at 92nd St. S, where the rider fled for a short foot pursuit before being captured.
"Please know that riding an e-bike on the road with a helmet is legal, but you must still follow all traffic laws. The suspect was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit and booked into the Pierce County Jail for eluding and obstruction, and the e-bike was impounded. This otherwise would have just been a basic traffic stop," the sheriff's office said.
