void stranger is a game-boy-inspired sokoban-esque puzzle game from system erasure, the developers of zeroranger. it is a punishing game in the genre thanks to its lack of undo function, requiring players to assess the risk of every move they take and accept the consequences of any of their mistakes. at the same time, it exercises themes of loops and memory in a mechanic sense to encourage replaying, taking things in stride, and experimentation over long periods. it is a fascinating game to me, and easily my favorite to come out in 2023.

mit and i JUST remembered that this year is super mario worlds 30th anniversary in north america, so we decided to have a fun little low-stakes no-practice race to bowsers castle to see who remembered super mario world better. honestly though, our memorys pretty rough. i dont think either of us remembered what was in all the doors in bowsers castle?")
