I recently finished writing a piano book series called "The sight-reading king", this series contains 2 books, A Book and B Book, designed for students to practice piano sight-reading and sight-singing. Sight-reading is actually fun, can you believe it? :)
This video demonstrates how to practice the exercises in the book, using exercise 26 as an example.
About this book:
Great exercises for practicing sight-reading and rhythm for beginners. The student can play the rhythm of bar 1 to 4 using just one note while counting. The rhythm should be played one hand at a time. Then, play the rhythm again using more than one note, bar 5 to 8, hands separately first, and when ready, try both hands together.
Do the same for the rhythm of bar 9 to 12, and the short 4-bar phrase of bar 13 to 16.
Chord symbols are included for duets, the teacher may play the chords when the student is playing the melody.
The student should get better at sight-reading after these exercises. Try to look at the book all the time when playing. When this book is finished, the student can practice more sight-reading by reading easy pieces that are a few grades lower than what they are currently learning, when doing sight-reading, look ahead, look at the notes slightly before you actually play them. Practice slowly.
The book may also be used as regular textbook for piano beginners. It may also be used to practice sight-singing, sing the do re mi fa so la ti with the chords.
