Phyllis Ada Diller was a trailblazing American comedian, actress, and entertainer whose wild hair, outrageous costumes, and trademark cackling laugh made her instantly recognizable. Known for her sharp, self-deprecating humor, she became one of the first female stand-up comics to break into the mainstream, paving the way for Joan Rivers, Roseanne Barr, Ellen DeGeneres, and many others.

Beyond comedy, Diller built a multi-faceted career as an actress, author, musician, and visual artist. She appeared in more than 40 films—starting with Splendor in the Grass (1961)—and made memorable television appearances on shows such as The Muppet Show, The Love Boat, and Boston Legal.

She also starred in her own sitcoms and variety shows, voiced animated characters from A Bug’s Life to Family Guy, and appeared in 11 seasons of The Bold and the Beautiful.
A cultural icon, Diller openly embraced plastic surgery long before it was common, becoming both a pioneer and symbol in the cosmetic industry. With her fearless persona, unapologetic humor, and larger-than-life presence, she left a lasting imprint not just on comedy, but on American popular culture.
