How has photography has been used as a means of investigation and, in some cases, as a way to unveil social inequities? Learn how images by photographers from Lewis Hine and Dorothea Lange to Gordon Parks and Susan Meiselas play an essential role in collective visual memory of conflicts and their aftermath, crises, resistance movements, and other societal issues. The lecture looks at traditions of documentary photography and photojournalism, as well as works by a selection of contemporary photographers such as Luc Delahaye and Alexandra Bell, who—in today’s complex media landscape—find innovative ways to use photography to combine art and activism.
