This is a recording of a presentation I did on photographing flowers for a local Lynchburg (VA-USA) garden club. I'm publishing it for two reasons: (1) to share the presentation with those interested in the topic and (2) to illustrate my mistakes in making the recording.
My decision to record myself making this presentation was last minute. I thought this was a good opportunity to practice what I preach and that is, use your smartphone to make videos. I did mic myself using my Comica CVM-WS50 wireless lav mic so the audio is spot on, I believe. I had my iPhone XS on a tripod to the left of the screen and podium (as you look at them) and my iPhone 6S Plus on another tripod on the right so it would capture what was on the screen as well as me. The Comica was attached to the iPhone XS.
I had my iPad Mini 3 set up to control my iPhone XS but forgot to turn it on! I was thinking I would stand at the table under the screen not the podium (first dumb mistake!) so the camera placement would have worked out fine, but, no, I had to wander out and not to the right (as I face the audience), but to the left. Therefore, I often walk out of frame of iPhone XS and sometimes even of iPhone 6S Plus! Plus, when I do walk to the left, the camera is not well placed for that angle. At least I'm glad I had both cameras running so it wasn't a total bust, though still not very "professional."
One positive outcome of this "experiment" was that I learned from it! I will do a "Creating Photos & Videos" episode and go over the lessons I learned from this experience and how I will try to do things the next time I have the opportunity.
