When New York City-based photographer Danielle Goldstein first came to ICP 17 years ago, she says she knew almost nothing about photography. Since then, ICP has become an important part of her life and practice.
In this extended conversation, Danielle reflects on the classes that changed her life, the community she has found at ICP, and how she learned much of what she knows about photography here.
She also shares the story behind her first monograph, "Transience," published by Schilt Publishing in 2025. The book is a series of self-portraits made in hotel rooms with text by her daughter, writer and editor Caroline Goldstein.
This December, Danielle will speak as part of ICP’s ROAR salon series in "Your New Creative Journey: Becoming a Photographer in Midlife." Taking place Wednesday, December 2 at 6 PM, the conversation will explore reinvention, lifelong learning, and the opportunities to pursue a creative practice later in life.
