Phoenix Police are actively searching for suspects involved in a series of metal thefts targeting local religious and memorial sites. Investigators report that tens of thousands of dollars in bronze and copper items were taken during two separate incidents. Detectives believe the same individuals are responsible for both crimes, which caused significant financial and emotional distress to the community.
The first theft occurred during the early morning hours of Aug. 12 at St. Francis Cemetery, where perpetrators broke into a mausoleum and stole 17 bronze name plaques valued at approximately $25,000. Two weeks later, on Aug. 26, the suspects struck St. Theresa Parish near 50th Street and Thomas Road around 4 a.m., damaging a door and stealing two copper door handles just two hours before morning mass. Visitors and community members expressed outrage over the property damage, calling the actions disgraceful.
Investigators are searching for an older black Jeep Grand Cherokee linked to both crime scenes. The getaway vehicle features a roof rack, aftermarket silver rims, a paper license plate, and a broken rear light. Phoenix Police and Silent Witness are asking anyone with information or who observes suspicious activity near houses of worship after hours to contact authorities immediately.
