For biology to be recognized as an autonomous science, the ideology of teleology had to be refuted. This has been done, in many, many ways, especially in the last two hundred years. Pity that nowadays, there are still people who have gaps in their knowledge in the science of biology, in history, and in history of ideas still keep a strong belief in teleology including a supernatural intelligence.
