A GREAT NEW REPORT FROM GLOBE LAW ON OUTSOURCING AT A TURNING POINT FOR LEGAL PROFESSIONALS
An appreciation by Elizabeth Robson Taylor MA of Richmond Green Chambers and Phillip Taylor MBE, Head of Chambers, Reviews Editor, “The Barrister”, and Mediator
Globe Law and Business have always excelled with their special report publications for busy professional lawyers and their staff. The latest offering in the series is “Outsourcing of Core Legal Service Functions”, or how to capitalize on opportunities for law firms as the sub-title. The report has been edited by Norman K Clark, and his team of five contributors, as a “step-by-step guide to a well-informed outsourcing decision” as well as a “roadmap for implementing it in a way that produces the best return on the law firm’s investment of management attention and resources”.
We consider that the report will be of substantial interest to anyone who may be considering the option of outsourcing their core legal service functions. Clark and his colleagues have included small and mid-sized law firms, both those in general practice and specialised boutiques, when considering whether, or not, outsourcing would be right for your law firm?
At the time of writing, law firms of all sizes emerging from the pandemic are discovering opportunities from outsourcing some of their core operating functions as the business of business inevitably changes. Such tasks have traditionally been performed in-house in the past. This special report offers us a highly firm-specific approach to identify and prioritise the components of a business case for outsourcing. In addition to the in-depth examinations, three representative types of outsourced services that are available to law firms are considered: patent research; cybersecurity, and large-volume document reviews.
Norman Clark and the team examine most effectively on their potential impacts on a law firm’s “bottom line.” They also review the frequently encountered management challenges in a law firm’s relationship with its external service provider. They conclude the report with a look at the future of outsourcing in the legal services industry although much of the future does appear unsettled at present. The end comment from Joel Barker remains telling: “The role of leadership is to find, recognise, and secure the future.” That is where we are today!
The date of publication of this new paperback special report is cited as 28th February 2021.
