Het electronicabedrijf Philips gaf in 1931 de Nederlandse filmer Joris Ivens de opdracht voor een reclamefilm met geluid.
De geluidsfilm was een nieuwe uitvinding, die paste bij een bedrijf dat zich richtte op moderne massaconsumptie.
Het onderwerp van de film is het productieproces van radio´s en luidsprekers. De camera registreerd het ritme van de machines in wisselwerking met de handelingen van de fabrieks-arbeiders.

The electronicscompany Philips gave in 1931 de Dutch filmmaker Joris Ivens the assignment for a advertising film with sound.
The sound film was a new invention, which fitted a company who was aiming at modern massconsumption.
The subject of the film is the production of radio´s and speakers. The camera registers the rhythm of the machines and the interaction with the proceedings of the factory workers.
