American composer Phil Lehenbauer (b. 1960) was educated at Ohio State University in music education with an emphasis on trombone. For 30 years, he was a public school band director in Ohio where he led concert bands, marching bands, jazz bands, and small ensembles at all levels from elementary through high school. Lehenbauer began playing as a church organist in grade school and continued church work in semi-retirement in Florida, where he was organist at Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church in Fort Lauderdale. In 2026, he returned to Northeast Ohio.
