Well that was a blast. How long did it take me to finish the King Tiger as part of this timed challenge? Watch to find out in this third and final part of our painting challenge. Not really a “How To” video but an experiment using a 1/35th scale Tamiya King Tiger Tank made by my friend Herbie.
If you recall, he asked me to paint the model and we decided to time how long it would take to finish the paint job.
I had thought about splitting this video up into one hour to two hour chunks, as explained in parts 1 and 2, but I decided to condense it all into one final episode, so I can move on to other projects.
The pressure is still on, as I try to get the best effects quickly and work to remedy any errors or experiments that went a bit wrong or which didn't quite turn out as intended.
This instalment covers the final hours of modelling and the following techniques:
Pumice Washes
Chipping
Filters
Oils
Attaching wheels and tracks
Airbrush stippling
Weathering effects and moisture
Sealing and final touches
This series is all about painting and weathering and how to achieve it. It is highly personal and subjective of course but our goal was to loosely match a photo of a King Tiger model - so the paint scheme and markings are fictional.
