Petty words is all about the downfall of a relationship - about that last fight.
We wanted to capture the raw emotion of it - sometimes, when you’re fighting with someone, you say things you might not mean. It’s about exaggeration, being caught up in the moment. We wanted it to have a ballad feel, to almost surprise the listener when you get to the chorus.
Lyrics
I’d a given you the shirt off my back If you asked me
You’d of said that the colour wasn’t right
You’d of gone to the ends of the earth if I wanted but I’d
Only make it there on my own time
Petty words like walls between us
I’m not even sure you get the point
We probably died a thousand times
All your friends suck and you hate mine
I hope it hurts, you hope I cry
You’re bad at truths, I’m good at lies
I’ll pour your last beer down the sink
You say that’s just the way I think
Ok then fine, I yell goodbye
You broke my heart,
I stole your bike
Was it your big moment when you finally said I love you
You did it just to say you said it first
You said all of my gestures always came with expectations
Nothing ever worth what it was worth
Petty words like walls between us
I’m not even sure you get the point
We probably died a thousand times
All your friends suck and you hate mine
I hope it hurts, you hope I cry
You’re bad at truths, I’m good at lies
I’ll pour your last beer down the sink
You say that’s just the way I think
Ok then fine, I yell goodbye
You broke my heart,
I stole your bike
