Did you know mangroves are coastal rainforests? Their tangled roots cradle baby fish, buffer communities from storm surges and lock carbon into coastal soils.
Through our Planting Tomorrow initiative, PETRONAS, via our social impact arm Yayasan PETRONAS, and together with coastal communities, aim to plant 100,000 mangrove saplings in Sungai Santi, Johor by 2027. Alongside restoring vital habitat, this work will help safeguard local livelihoods and strengthen natural coastal defences.
This is one way we are investing in nature-based conservation, complementing our ongoing efforts to lower emissions and deliver reliable energy.
On World Rainforest Day, we are celebrating these tidal forests and the people who nurture them, because every sapling we plant today helps secure our shores and livelihoods for tomorrow.
