The first Australian actor in Star Wars, Peter Sumner, discusses his role as Lieutenant Pol Treidum in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977).
Peter Sumner was an Australian actor who landed a fortunate break while touring through Europe. He was cast in the original Star Wars movie in London, famously playing the Imperial Officer who utters the iconic line, “TK-421, why aren’t you at your post?” before being knocked out by Chewbacca. Beyond his on-screen role, Peter also operated the Dianoga (the trash compactor monster) during the filming at Elstree Studios.
Before his passing in 2016, Darryl James had the opportunity to have a vibrant chat with Peter in Sydney. This interview segment is part of a collection of over 300 filmed conversations with more than 100 different performers from the Star Wars saga.
