This is one of those rare songs that I didn't discover until I was in my 40's. Somehow when I was my younger self, in the heyday of New Wave, I simply had never heard this remarkable track, possibly because in 1982 I was 13 and just discovering New Wave, synthpop, and electronica and lacked a dedicated outlet for the genre like KROQ in LA or WDRE/WLIR in NY. Instead, I discovered this on Sirius 33 First Wave, and loved it. In light of how the internet, with all of its ready availability of salacious images, can drive one to unhealthy obsessions with people who either are just there to titillate you for money or aren't even real people but rather AI generated fantasies, the song is even more salient today than it was 40 years ago, and that's kinda the angle I went for. I hope I succeeded.
