Pete Long is fast gaining a reputation in the swing dance world as the go-to guy for classic swing jazz. Specialising in the music of the golden era of swing – the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s - he takes the music of Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Gene Krupa and other legends and plays them with all the zest and excitement they had back in the day when their bands were full of young punks with fire in their bellies. Furthermore he does all this whilst playing the music at the right tempo aided by drummer Richard Pite (James Langton’s Solid Senders, The Radio Kings, Pasadena Roof Orchestra, Shirt Tail Stompers and many other renowned dance bands). They’re joined by such swing specialists as pianist Colin Good (Bryan Ferry, Echoes of Ellington), guitarist Martin Wheatley (Bryan ferry, Piccadilly Dance Orchestra, Basin Street Brawlers) and trumpeter Enrico Tomasso (Bryan Ferry, Acker Bilk, Kenny Ball, Keith Nichols Blue Devils).
Pete’s swing bands are available in small band format (Pocket Swing, Pocket Basie, Pocket Goodman etc) and Big Bands up to 16 piece. In the video you’ll hear the small and big band versions of a solid gold swing classic, Count Basie’s One O’clock Jump.
