The Secretary of Defense was in Northeast Wisconsin Monday as part of his nationwide “Arsenal of Freedom” tour.
During the visit, Secretary Pete Hegseth saw firsthand how Oshkosh Corporation builds advanced tactical vehicles, including the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) and Remotely Operated Ground Unit for Expeditionary Fires (ROGUE-Fires).
"The vehicles you make here, as you know, are used by our warriors all around the world," said Sec. Hegseth as he addressed and praised hundreds of Oshkosh Corp. employees.
He added, "Every single one of you, every welder, every receptionist, to the CEO is supporting American warriors every single day. This is not just another manufacturing job. This is patriotism in the form of steel, past and present. It's incredible what you've accomplished here in Oshkosh."
"The epitome of who we are here to serve is the warfighter and our ability to take technology that we develop across multiple different end markets that we're able to package it and curate it for what individual end markets, like a warfighter needs to be productive and safe on the job. And that's been the same for us for more than 100 years," added Oshkosh Corp. President John Pfeifer.
Hegseth believes, what he calls the War Department, has much more work to do. The Trump administration asking Congress to pass a $1.5 trillion budget for the military.
According to Hegseth, "It is a bold generational investment the largest military budget in history But it's absolutely necessary when you look under the hood and you understand the nature of the threat You understand the negligence of previous administrations the deferred maintenance It is what we must provide for the necessity of today's warriors and in order to make an investment in the future of warfare."
